After five times buying cars on Ebay, I feel the biggest risk of a negative experience from a poor Ebay vendor is the abuse of the non-refundable deposit. If you post a deposit, arrive to pick up your new driveway star and the car was misrepresented, that's too bad, it's gone. Ebay WILL NOT support a refund of a non-refundable deposit through their VPP program.

Secondly, I bid on a car that was described as all good. On arrival after two days travel, it was soaking wet and moldy inside, had a rear main seal leak, broken body parts, super old tires, none of it described. No deposit back ,Ebay refused to assist (VPP). I provided negative rating for misrepresentation the same day as another -ve for the same thing, Ebay reset the ratings for the vendor (f50motorsports) to 100% positive.I have found this buying parts too, the feedback ratings are not trustworthy.

There are some good buys, incomparable selection , access to rare parts and cars but my experience do your diligence on condition including lots of questions, agreement for a refund on inspection post sale and do not bid if it's a non-refundable deposit.

If you think you want to buy a car from ebay because you want a good deal, you may be wasting time. MY friends and I have watched many bidding wars on ebay and we have come to the conclusion that the sellers are reserving at /or almost at retail, and if they don't get there price they cancell and relist alittle less. You can get as good a deal by just looking at cars.com or auto trader. Remember "caveat emptor" !!! but also remember that the market dictates the price and the consumer controls the market, so if the consumer, en mass , would just refuse the price, then the price comes down!!!!! So if your not getting a GREAT price on a vehicle- walk away
