    Jeremy Clarkson ran the old A8 diesel from London to Edinburgh and back on one tank of fuel. That's something like 800 miles or more and 40+ mpg. Mind you, those were Imperial gallons (US gallons come up short) and he was driving rather slowly at times.

    The cruising range on that thing is huge, over 800 miles according to the numbers you provided. Also, those are some good braking numbers.

    240hp is more than the monster V8's found in the mid 70's boats. The Cadillac 500ci V8, the 460 Ford, 454 Chevy and 440 Chrysler were all lucky to see 200 gross by the end of their runs. 240 HP in a lighter, more aerodynamic A8 with 8 speeds in the transmission instead of 3 will effortlessly kick the [non-permissible content removed] of any big block luxo cruiser ever to come out of Detroit. I can't see any reason why this version of the A8L wouldn't be the dominant one. 38 MPG on the highway? That's amazing for a car of this size. Once you decide to spend big money on an A8L I don't see why you would bother to buy any other version.

    Add one of these bad boys to the LT fleet PLEASE. Then do the drive to the Detroit, Chicago or NYC auto shows in it.

    @bankerdanny: I wish, but considering that Edmunds just had a 2012 A8, I don't think that there's much hope...

    They had multiple Prii over the years, and 3 series after 3 series, and GTI after GTI. Multiple Jetta TDI's. There is no reason they can't have a second A8 with a completely different drivetrain.

    Hey, I wasn't arguing against it, just pointing out that they just had one.

    This is the perfect luxury car. Highway range for this car should be about 1000 miles in the real world.
