If the car is illegal under CA law because they cannot supply an intact replacement part, tell them to give you a loaner.

I would not have filed an insurance claim either. Frustrating as it is, you have to see it through with the manufacturer.

And in the general sense, my (admittedly limited) experience is that the parts divisions of automakers operate in a completely separate orbit from the other divisions, unaffected by our worldly concerns. My dealer's parts manager is very good at his job, but even he gets frustrated by the slack attitude of Mopar managers back in Auburn Hills (although this is absolutely not unique to Chrysler). He says that this is what happens when the responsible people are too far removed from the "front lines".

This is really the best you should expect when buying a rebodied Fiat from a Dodge dealership. Poor customer service and outright contempt aren't just isolated issues; they're deeply ingrained cultural attitudes.

Don't agree? I dare you to prove me wrong.

GET Dodge (Jeep/Ram/Chrysler/Fiat...) has done a good job for me in the past. This isn't how it usually goes there. I think I'm in a situation where most windshields are replaced by third party replacement glass suppliers and this one is coming from the OE glass supplier. Dealers don't usually do windshields, especially under warranty with factory parts. Still, it's a pain and the delay is inexcusable. As for me, the desire to "see it through" and not give up this legitimate warranty claim has another motivation: our insurance deductible is higher than the cost of the windshield.
