    You have the shift knob too tight.. it bottoms out on the shifter cap (making it pop up) . The shift knob in my brz was always loose and if i tightened the same thing would happen. Thankfully subaru gave me a new one and it is fine now.

    This is the best you can come up with after 20k miles? I've had mine for 5k miles and I can write ten times more.
