Perhaps one of your crew goes out star gazing and disables the light so as not to screw up their night vision when they just need to grab something like a jacket.

I rented a Focus for a month last year. It took me a moment to find that switch.. and when I turned it on.. my head was blocking the light. Great.

Forgo the sunroof (hey, it's a stand alone option and besides leaks the internet says at least one guy's car was had the drain tube exiting into the rear footwell,) and the light will be in the "right" place.
