I've had this issue in my '02 Ranger since it was new luckly no accidents but i will never buy another Ford after this fail.
Dealers have no idea what to do and the company does not care.

I had this issue happen two weeks ago with our 2010 Ford Fusion SE. It lost all power and had to pull over to the side of the road. It would not restart and had to open the door to signal the computer to turn off. After closing the door the car would restart again. The dealership found no issues with the car.

This is a different problem that the transmission failure that was recalled in 2010 that would cause loss of power.

The 2002 Ranger isn't drive-by-wire, so joe_scuba's incident is unrelated. Anecdotally I've put on 380k cumulative miles on three Ford vehicles MY2002 and later and never had a throttle problem. Maybe I'm just lucky, but the odds are good that I never see this problem. Oh, and the article title should be "2009-'11 Ford Escape, Fusion Among 724,982-vehicle Focus of NHTSA Probe", to keep with the Ford theme.
