    Hello Mr. Reed:

Just a reminder that I had asked the my comments be corrected. Specifically: A car should sit at least one hour before being driven and sometimes up to 12 hours, DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER CONDITIONS AND TYPE OF ADHESIVE USED. I also said that old windshields MAY need to be replaced, not that they should be replaced.
Also the National Glass Association is no longer certifying technicians, the Auto Glass Safety Council is, and I mentioned to you that the Auto Glass Council is the new name of the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards Council (agrss.org), which takes effect January 1, 2012.

What can anyone tell me about the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and Regulations for windshield glass and adhesives? I have heard that when choosing a specialist to look for vendors with FMVS-certified replacement materials. Thanks!

if price isn't a concern, and the original windshield has VIN Etching, would you recommend replacement or filling? both would be done through the infiniti dealer.

VIN etching can be done with a kit for around $20. Not sure that even that is worth it, unless your insurance company actually gives you a break on the premium.
