Touchscreens are great features on smartphones and other personal electronic entertainment items, but just because they work really well in certain applications doesn't mean they work well in all applications. In cars, where the driver needs to keep his/her eyes on the road and the vehicle may be bouncing/shaking/vibrating/leaning/turning having a good solid button with tactile feedback really is just the ideal setup. This isn't just a point against technology. I love the touch screen on my phone, but I wouldn't want one in my car, in the same way I don't want my car's speakers to be just like my phone's speaker. Two entirely different sets of requirements. Technology should not be used simply for technology's sake. Only use it if it meaningfully improves the experience.

Well that's good news! I'll admit that I have never liked touchscreens (even for phones), but I could live with one in my car as long as I have actual buttons for volume, radio presets, and climate control. However, I have a hankering for older four wheel drives, so I'll just continue to enjoy simple controls while being uninterrupted and unencumbered by the so called conveniences of this day. Now if someone wants to make a modern car with the complexity of an FJ60 then I'll be more than happy to give them my money.
