needing to leave it overnight because they didn't have something as common as a cabin filter sounds like it would be a bit annoying for some people.
The overnight thing sounds nice but the cynical side of me thinks they probably get their parts overnight anyways. And they couldn't buy a filter out from another dealer in your area the same day?
I agree, this does not sound good. While it may be painless for some people, leaving the car overnight may be very inconvenient for many. This especially sounds bad if the service visit was scheduled ahead of time.
Also, it sounds extremely expensive. People complain about maintenance costs for European cars. Well, here's an Asian car and the cost of basic maintenance seems extremely high. For many European car owners this kind of service would be completely free because maintenance is included in the purchase price.
@VVK: Those kind of dealer prices are typical for Santa Monica. Take a look at some other Edmunds posts for typical maintenance prices on various makes and models.
What part of that was painless? $167 sounds steep for an oil and cabin air filter change, but maybe it's normal for luxury cars. not having a simple air filter in stock sounds like a pain since you have to wait till the next day for your car. for you, that was painless, but for me (and probably a lot of others who have only one car), that would've been a nuissance since i would have to call in late to work so I could p/u the car in the morning.
