The numbers estimated by the auto industry as to what it would cost to add cameras is grossly exaggerated. In fact it is about double depending on how you calculate. Last model year 40% of vehicles came with rear view cameras standard. Another 20-30% came with the camera chosen by the consumer as an option. As many as 70% of vehicles already have this technology. So it is not adding $2.7 billion annually to the fleet. Furthermore that would be assuming EVERY vehicle needs a screen added as well when in reality many vehicles are already coming equipped with a screen.
