Hmm, maybe caused by a heat cycle? Understandable that normal windshield cracks wouldn't be covered, but a judgement call should definitely rule this an exceptional defect.

Edmunds.com: Finding new and unusual ways to destroy auto glass since 1995. :P

Seriously though, this does appear to be something that is likely covered under warranty.

This does take the Edmunds Windshield and Tire Curse to an entirely new level.

Flimsy body structure. This car was very obviously designed to a price, by persons not at the tops of their engineering classes. Also Italians.

I had my money on the new VW getting the next windshield break. Lose again.

The last time I saw a windshield that was cracked from the inside it was on a buddy's car. I understand that the event involved a young lady and stiletto heels but after that details were not forthcoming.

noburgers, the VW did get a tire puncture so you were pretty darn close. You deserve half credit.

@agentorange: Hopefully you didn't sit in the seat closest in proximity to where the crack originated

@duck87 Sitting in ANY seat of the cars that guy had was a high risk proposition, even when girls were not involved. His driving made it easy to memorise bus and train schedules.

Feel good it was not a 328i windshield you have to replace. Pacific Northwest dealer quoted my friend $1,900, which he passed on.

Happened with my '95 Neon too, only after warranty back then. It's a Chrysler quality issue, nothing to do with Daimler or the Italians.... but nice deflection...
