Those are some serious numbers, but the Vette has always been a good performer.

The Vette is still the best performance bang for the buck, and yes it's better than the GT500.

While I still think that the back end of the C7 leaves A LOT to be desired, there's no denying the performance. This car is going to be one hell of a performance bargain. I hope it drives as well as the numbers and stat's sheets indicate.

....now if they could just bring down the price.......I have heard new version coming ( "Corvette" ....not "Corvette Stingray") which will supposedly do ( to some extent) what is mentioned.

I heard 5.3 liter V8, fixed roof, cloth seats, no nav, simple body panels, less color choices ,under 50k. Anyone else hear same/similar? Would even love to see the 3.6 V6 as I cannot even remember the last time I raced a Ferrari.......No, it wouldnt do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds ...but even 5.8seconds is damn quick enough. .

Why is the Audi S5 considered one of its main competitors? I would have thought it a typo until the article also noted the S5's performance numbers.

    ks55:

It'd be foolish for Chevy to release a V6 version that goes 0-60 in 5.8. That's slower than the Camaro and only about as fast as the 328, which is a family sedan for crying out loud. It's already a raging bargain for what it offers.

Corvettes do not need to be cheaper. GM needs a cheaper RWD performance car. Perhaps they should partner up with another company like Toyota and Subaru did.

Dfelix - Came on here to post the same question. How on earth is the Audi S5 a competitor? Porsche I get - evolutionized lightweight sports car.

But the very heavy, slow-by-comparison Audi S5? Really?

@ks55 Are you wanting the Corvette look but don't need the performance? If so, I think you will find that the product planners at GM unsympathetic. Their V6 sports car says Camaro on the back.

You both are very correct. The C7 is a 2 seat roadster/coupe. I think it is a joke to compare a large Audi with a backseat or even the Porsche. I mean I understand the Porsche to an extent, light small coupe with a fake backs

5.8 seconds to 60 would not be quick enough for any Corvette. I'd be embarrased to drive any variation of Corvette, and get beat by v6 Toyota Camrys and other similar midsize cars. hell I've gotten my Sonata SE Turbo under that by a few tenths!

but i've heard the rumor of a "regular" Corvette, with the 5.3 v8. even with "only" 360hp or so, it should still get close to 5 seconds flat or better as I'd imagine it should weigh even less than the Stingray version, which is pretty light itself.

Audi R8 and Viper are more like its competitors than the S5. S5 strikes me as personal luxury/perfomance model than a sports car
