Don't quite understand the logic of making it AWD-only. Making an AWD model was smart, but making it the only option doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Also, it looks like German designers are starting to think alike. That front bumper design likes quite similar to the BMW 4 series coupe concept bumper design.

Audi makes you think AWD and Mercedes makes you think big beastly RWD burnout machine. AWD will still be most associated with Audi, and Mercedes loses a bit of identity. That's why you don't go just copying others.

I agree to a point stovt001, but I think it's probably a decent compromise. From the Motor Trend test mule first test video posted a few weeks back it is pretty obvious that the E63 is still capable of lurid slip-angles out on the track. The difference is that the car will now be much easier to launch and less likely to bite back if you bumble a mid-corner input. Both things important for the non-enthusiast most likely to be actually driving one.

Besides, the CLS63 AMG is still available with RWD and it makes more sense for that car to be the harder-edged performance machine anyway.

Bring on the MODS so we can really see what this car can do!

So it's the best of both worlds with the all wheel drive. Grip in weather and faster on the track. Hopefully it's just as fun as the last one even though it might not slide as easily. Although, it makes sense that AMG would think to keep rear wheel drive in the enthusiast's car, the CLS, and put all wheel drive in the family car, the E63, but if mercedesfan is saying the E63 is for the non-enthusiast, then why wouldn't they just buy the E350 wagon instead of the super expensive, gas guzzling E63 wagon? I personally think they should put an option to make the switch to awd easier.

Finally, the E63 gets into the 3 second club. I almost left the brand, but with AWD and much improved handling this car will be a monster . A flash of the ECU and this car will put down over 700 torque and more than 650 HP.

My hat is off to AMG. Competition is now officially on notice.
