British Top Gear went on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Great road killed by 35 mph speed limits.

Why don't comments appear on the same page as the article? Hell, that's just stupid.

Pike's Peak is indeed awesome, but it is not the highest altitude road in Colorado. Mt Evans west of Denver reaches 14,240 feet and is frequently used by auto manufacturers as a testing ground for high altitude operation, you can see some non-US vehicles there as well as future models. The mountain itself is terrific, but is open to the top only for a short summer period.

Last time I was on the Blue Ridge Parkway, most of it was 45 mph. Speeding along means paying less attention to the scenery, overuse of brakes, higher likelihood of hitting a bear, deer, flock of turkeys, etc, and maybe missing a spot where it might be nice to stop and take a walk. It bypasses the point of the highway, even if it had been built to accommodate higher speeds.

I think you mean that Hwy 168 heads east just north of Big Pine, CA, not Lone Pine.

Dang! That road pictured on Pikes Peak looks amazing! Of course, anything beats the hundreds of miles of laser-straight roads we have on the east side of SD. :/
