Companies want easy information, people want privacy... From the look of things, its going to get worse before it gets better. I would say that the government would eventually intervene, but it seems that it loves internet gossip more than anyone else. As for getting rid of that annoying screen once and for all, I would go menu searching for a permanent off. If not, you could always go to the dealership and complain. They probably won't be able to make it go away, but you might get a free oil change if you seem angry enough...
I just picked up a cheap TomTom for a trip out west a couple weeks ago and recognized Kelly's screen shot from setting up my unit. I don't know if this will work in the Mazda , but the option in my nav is under Settings - Start-up. The setting says "Ask consent for information sharing each time you start your navigation device." I clicked no and mine did not ask me again during the trip. The Start-up setting is on the last page of Settings and I had to click through a couple other start-up settings before getting to the information sharing setting. Hope this helps!
And this is yet another reason (I've lost track of how many) why I'll skip factory nav and go aftermarket/phone every time. Neither my Garmin unit nor my phone does this. Of course my phone is already being monitored anyway so I guess that's moot.
The Mazda nav system is by TomTom and is SD card based. Open the access door on the dash, pop out the card and update it on your PC. Updates are free... sort of. TomTom has MapShare, which I gather is some sort of open-source-like community author
This is extremely easy to disable. Go into the settings when in Navigation mode, scroll to "Start Up Settings", select information sharing and disable it. It takes all of a minute. After that you only get the generic "OMG DON'T USE WHILE IN MOTION OR KITTENS/BABIES WILL BURN" message, which goes away a few sections after start up.
