    I had the exact same thing happen to the fuel cap on my 2009 Audi.

    The two plastic pins on the back side of the cap rim securing the lanyard to the cap backed out.

    Simply slide the lanyard back into the slot in the cap and push the pins back in.

    It was a 5 second fix on mine once I looked at it and the problem has not happened again. It's not broken, it's just a poor design.

    I bet a Stage 1 Tune from APR would solve that. Just saying
