    I keep the windshields of our cars pretty clean. I can't stand it even if I just have a wiper trail around the perimeter, so that would drive me more than nuts!!

    This doesn't surprise me at all, just make it a point in the future to clean your replacement windshields yourselves.

    Was the grime on the inside or the outside? And the dealer couldn't do the courtesy of cleaning it before handing it over to you?

    It's a mold release agent. Yes, the dealer should have cleaned it off before returning the car. It's not "grime" and it should not be a surprise to an outfit like Edmunds.
