It is definitely something I would consider.

Ford states in the Crown Vic Police Interceptor manual that 1 idle hour is equivalent to 33 miles driven.

i guess it can both help and hurt you however i doubt that anyone will have a good idea of what to expect for hours of service when buying a used vehicle compared to the mileage. i wonder if GM cars are now using the hours of service as a way to turn the oil light on instead of miles. i know that the newer gm cars are one of the most confusing ones as far as oil life is concerned you can get the oil light after 2,000 miles one time and 8,000 miles the next due to their secret algorythems they use.

I would be more concerned with engine hours on a diesel truck. Those are more likely to sit and idle and actually be used for job site work. This is a civilian truck. Overall condition, service records, and mileage per year would be of more interest to me.

It's a good thing to know but I couldn't tell you what a good number of hours would be or a good average speed.
