After I got off I remembered the Moss act.

Yes you can use whatever you want to replace OEM parts to specs set by the factory.

All I am saying is that if say Oby changed his oil himself, and kept all the recieps for the oil and filter, he would be fine.

But say I changed my oil filter, threw away my reciepts, and then had a problem with say, the oil pan(Which would be rare!) or had an oil consumption problem, what would GM want from me??

All the reciepts that prove the work was done, and how it was done.

It's for this fact that I only use Ac/Delco parts on my truck. That way I can't be blamed for using non-Oem parts for any reason.

My ext warranty booklet says use of Non OEM parts but limited to "Like" parts such as a Fram filter or etc that will fit the truck will be under the agreement and I would have no problem obtaining service paid for by GM.

It also states that all work must be proven either by receipt or etc... ensuring proper maintence. of the part.

Not putting any blame on this guy, but if he indeed left it in auto mode, would that cause wear on the 4x4 system?? But then again GM claims this sytem can be left on all the time 24/365 so I don't know about that one.

They will want reciepts of all work done, however. If you were GM wouldn't you.

Treat it like you are buying used. I wish this guy good luck, and I know the 2500's have some problems.

And BTW what are the diffs between "Instatrac" and "AutoTrac"?

Reciepts are not required good maintenance records are, take it from one who's been thru the New York Lemon Law......and won against GM. :-)

I haven't got instatrac or push button 4wd. I have the old type with the floor shifter. We do not leave the 4wd engaged, and use it sparingly - i.e., when necessary. I have had 4wd's for years, I'm 30 and have been driving 4x4s for over 10 years of that, and never had a problem. The mechanic (at Chevy dealership) agrees there is a problem, doesn't matter if the truck is rolling, stopped, in neutral (the truck is an automatic).

We do not abuse our trucks (we currently have 3)...oil changes every 3000 or less, synthetic oil, routine maintenance checks, etc. on all of them.

through the years, various trucks I have been associated with had problems with the manual shifters for the transfer case...imagine the gears meshing together but the gears are too close together...seems that is the problem in the transfer cases...and you are trying to use a manual lever to force these gears together,,,sometimes if you locked the hubs it would help mesh them together for you if you see what I'm saying..
I had one truck that we even had to have rolling before we could lock the hubs as we crabwalked next to the front wheels,,,,
they may be able to adjust the spacers on the transfer case/front axle to give it some room to engage, ie , give the gears some room to engage...
just trying to give a possible idea from my old experience,,,I am 41 and have been driving 4x4 since I was 18,,,
chevy has had tight transfer case engagement for years (too tight for a manual shifter..) yours sounds like it is tighter than normal problem cases.
Does taking the weight off the front end help?

or are you finished working with them?
The 4x4 problem would probably require a whole new t-case if they really wanted to fix it right, and I bet they don't want to try that do they?
    Good luck ..
