I actually like it as some contrasting color on some exterior colors. I don't think it does much with the color of your 911 but since big chunks of chrome are out there needs to be something besides just a sea of one color on the car.

I'm pretty sure you can get those painted with a manufacture option

I assume you meant to say specifically that the fact it is unpainted is what you don't like?
I doubt there's been car made in 15 years with exterior mirrors made of anything other than plastic.

Is the painted part not plastic as well?

If the Carrera is driven as it must be, the mirror front surface will be nothing but a large bug splatter anyway, so what difference does it make what material is used?

I think you can get Porsche crests on those for only $500. For the plastic ones...the metal crests are $1,500 and there's a waiting list.

"For $100,000, you should be spared interaction with plastics." Perhaps the plastic is to avoid unsightly damage when that part of the mirror interfaces with grit and stones as it is sure to do.

Isn't the whole thing plastic, just the bottom isn't painted?

It's a Porsche. There was a $1000 option you missed somewhere!

According to Porsche, "Wing mirror (lower part) finished in exterior color" is $645 from their "Exclusive" program.
