This trend is what hurt Honda. As everyone was improving their interiors with richer materials Honda seemed to hold back their Honda cars a bit to create the gap for Acura. This hit them Hard with the new civic. The market has changed an now entry level brands have some highly speced out trims.
As for the RLX it just looks boring. As this model always has (RL). I think it could have been saved by making the RLX SH-AWD the sole option, creating interest and buzz and then maybe roll out lower cost base models, if the public demanded it. I can't see having $50k to spend or $600/month for a lease and going for the base RLX.
