Didn't the outgoing WRX clock 0-60 times as quick as 4.7 seconds, so why 5.4/5.9 sec claims?

The aggressive front face of this car is completely at odds with the softer styled rear 2/3 of the car. It's like one of those dude-bros at the gym with huge biceps and twiggy legs. The chassis and powertrain sounds good, except for the CVT.

I agree with coxwill. Not got a hatchback version,
    then not interested.

I admire Subaru for offering an automatic option. Lack of one in the Focus ST and Mazdaspeed 3 are part of the reason I could never consider one, as my wife doesn't drive a stick (she can, she just won't on a daily driver). That said, WTF is Subaru thinking with a #$#%$@ CVT? Doesn't it already have a DSG that it offers (or offered) on the STi? No hatch, a wussy CVT, unless I get divorced there is no WRX in my future.

The reason it's slower 0-60 is the 6-speed requires an extra shift to reach 60 mph. The STI has had this same problem from the get-go.

This new engine will be better than the outgoing engine. It has more torque that is spread over a wider rpm range, plus it will get better gas mileage.

As an owner of an '09 WRX, I have no problem is it's a smidge slower to 60 mph. That won't be an issue for me. Not having a 5-door is much more of a concern for me; in fact could well be a deal-killer. I just hope the Levorg sport wagon, dressed in WRX garb, will make it's way over here ASAP.

Subaru just dont care about wrx anymore

they waited two year plus to make wrx after base impreza wherr they used to make it in 6 mos after. I understand they were waiting to turbo their facebook engines but its forester got it right on time when redesigned. They say its a different platform but its not the case. Nothing like promised or the concept, whatsoever.

Edmund had a la auto show video on youtube couple days ago leaking the image of the car I thought it was some some photoshop pic because it looked exactly the same shape as the car and driver leaked pic which was said to be photoshoped too. But both proved to he the actual car and edmunds youtube image is exactly the one used by subaru in the press release kit.

I think the CVT will be fine. It's likely a version of the high-torque CVT used in the Forester XT turbo, and that one has gotten very good reviews.

Sounds like an excellent time to, if you are considering a WRX/STI, to pick-up a 2014 hatchback.

Unless this thing somehow wows on the track, I don't get it. Weight went up? C'mon Subaru - since 2009 you've been offering a similar performing WRX. Give me 5 years worth of advancement!!!

Really disappointed there's no hatchback. I've always thought the hatch was much more attractive than the sedan, and makes the thing really practical too. I can't believe what I'm about to say: I guess I'd take a Forester XT instead. It's not up to the same performance level but it'd cover my needs better while still offering some fun.

Phew, so glad that I just got a 2013 model with a real "trunk".

I am ok with the CVT. I mean people, if they don't move enough of these cars they'll simply stop making them. Just like they did with the legacy GT. The CVT auto will help that aspect.

Personally I am not in the market for one of these yet. But maybe just maybe they will still be around when I next need to get a car. And the CVT well I don't want it but the wife would sure appreciate being able to drive the car as well.

Now if only they give us back the Legacy GT...

Shame about the brake biased torque vectoring. Works wonderful for most cars on the street. Completely overheats the brakes under track conditions. Sending more power to the rear and having a mechanical limited slip would have been most likely a more reliable (and expensive) solution to UNDER steer. I love the new WRX but I wont be trading in my BRZ.

    Zzzzzz...

Wha-? Oh, I had this crazy dream that it was 2002, and the WRX had just come out and was awesome cuz it had spunk. I bought one like the one I used to own, but drove it off a cliff and died in a ball of fire. Much to my disappointment, I woke up to this article.
