$540 for an oil change and they charge you $2 for wiper fluid? Apparently Porsche (or at least that partucular dealer) isn't familiar with the parable about the straw and the camel.

    +1 bankerdanny

and man, I know this is one of those "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" moments for the Porsche, but this kind of maintenance cost would make me think twice regardless of whether I _can_ afford it.

    Look forward to seeing

The problem isn't Porsche, the problem is the west side of LA.

How does this compare with Edmunds' estimated cost of maintenance?

Nope, this is about par for the course with the 911. I remember reading a post on a Porsche forum about how easy it was to change the last gen 911's oil and the reactions from some owners. "uhh... so what the heck am I paying several hundred dollars for again?"

This is just the 1st service. There's more fun to come.

if they are going to charge that kind of $ (and i'm not saying i think it's right); they shouldn't be adding tacky $2 charges, and they should take care of something as simple as air pressure the second you asked for it. the high service costs might be considered part of a high end purchase, but so to should an exceptional level of customer attentiveness and service.

Even though the Beverly Hills Porsche service department is the most convenient to me location wise, I personally avoid it unless it is for a warranty repair. I was quoted $600 for the 10k service on the Pany as well, got it done at Pacific Porsche in South Bay for $220 and my tire pressures were correctly set as well.

Immediate fail for screwing up your tyre pressures. Schedule demolition.

I don't think they screwed up the tire pressure--it was set to specs, and Edmunds followed recommendations that met their needs. Bit the writer should have whipped out a hand held gauge and did it on the spot. You can't tell me there isn't one closer than 2 blocks away. But overall a princely sum for a stinkin oil change. I had to thumbs up most of the previous posters and thanks nyccarguy that was good.

@noburgers. Yes, but they set them to the MAXIMUM spec without asking the customer what it was they wanted. That does not fly for me. I took an Xterra in for a service years ago and when I drove it home I could tell you whether any pennies I rode over wer

They have to take the wing off? What wing would that be, exactly - this is a Carerra Cabriolet - ? This car is designed so that it needs what, approximately 3 hours of labor to change the oil? I have to hand it to Porsche - they know their customer base. Anyone who will believe it takes 3 hours of labor to change oil will also believe it takes a special facility with special tools to reduce the pressure in the tires. Oh, and Edmunds' True Cost to Own says that for this car, year one maintenance is $44, and year two is $690. So they are assuming you won't drive 10k miles per year, and they are assuming damn little work other than the $520 oil change.

What's a routine major service run, and what service interval?
  • nyccarguynyccarguy Member Posts: 17,233
noburgers - apparently this seems to be a problem not isolated to this particular Porsche dealer. My Mom recently brought her 2011 V6 Cayenne in for its 48,000 mile service which included an oil & filter change, cabin filter replacement, and new spark plugs. She also had to put new front & rear pads & rotors on her truck. They didn't reset her tire pressure correctly either, nor did they wash her Cayenne.

Buy a Porsche, get reamed by the service department -this is news? The vehicle itself is 20-25% overpriced, so they just assume that you wouldn't mind paying jacked-up prices for routine service as well. It's all part of the Porsche "experience".

Their sales are good, so there appears to be no shortage of suckers willing to take it on the chin for driving a vehicle that they will NEVER be able push near its limits in the U.S. unless tracked. Any guesses as to the number of new 911's regularly taken to the track? Probably 1-2% if even that high.

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if you brought this Porsche to a Jiffy Lube? Would they also spend a couple of hours removing the wing? Tell you to get lost? Charge you more than $20?

Beverly Hills Porsche likes to rip people off. Oil/filter change should not cost $500, this is a Porsche, not a Ferrari. Looks like you are another victim.

At least you are not this guy.
