Seems like unnecessary bling to me.

This is a real surprise-and-delight feature that's just not available elsewhere in the category. Nice touch.

And gslippy, it's easy to say that until you lose a side mirror on a narrow street.

Not sure about the SLS, but every other Benz with power folding mirrors can be set to auto-fold when locked (and vice versa when unlocked) by changing a setting in COMAND.

gslippy does not and has not parked on a street with a bus route and a bike lane. This feature is one more city dwellers would LOVE to see at least available on more cars.

Why should the mirrors fold? What is the benefit? I have noticed that the mirrors (unfolded) help sometimes avoid scratches on doors as other cars doors parked close to mine, hit them before they hit the paint on the door panel and save my car another scratch/bump on the door...

I guess I don't park on the street but rather on busy, tight parking garages where door scratches is the main concern. How much less does the mirror stick out folded than fully deployed?

Electric folding mirrors?! Have we really gotten that bored with motoring that we can get excited about something that is bound to fail us eventually? PLEASE!

Everything is bound to fail on a car...eventually. But this feature isn't just convenient parking, it's also great at ATMs and drive-thrus. Sure, you can fold the mirror manually on some cars in such situations, but it's much easier this way.
