I was going to let this one go, but then I got to your other post. This is the kind of luxury crap, and whining by people with too much money, that drives OE's to make this stuff standard and drives both the cost and weight of a truck through the roof. This item should be optional, period.

"I just jump off anyway, whether there's a step or not. That's how you get down from a pickup"

Well I just lower the tailgate, whether it's damped or not. That's how you lower a tailgate.

Nice feature, on the rare occasions I borrow a pickup I try to let the gate down without clanging it. This is easier. They make soft close cabinet drawers and toilet seats with the same nice feature. Makes you wonder how you ever got by without them.

@visionaries I really think it's manufacturers trying to one up each other to grab a share of lucrative vehicle sales. This the torque and HP wars, towing capacity, power ports, coolers, etc.

I grab the tailgate and it does NOT leave my hands until its all the way down. If you are disabled or have a physical problem that keeps you from being able to control 30-40 lbs of moving steel ok I can see this being good for you and there are aftermarket parts for to get this on your current truck.---------------------------------------------
Other then that scenario I don't see how this anything but a luxury item that makes the truck more expensive and probably worse is it makes replacing that tailgate more expensive.---------
Just ask some of the 08-10 F150 owners who had their tailgates with the step stolen as those gates are 3x times more then the standard gate and for awhile finding the parts meant being on a waiting list for up to a few months for some, but at least it was a option not standard at that time.-----------------------------------------
