So much for toyota build quality? Granted never suppose to be for this index finger shifting but if it can't stand up to this how long will it last for normal use?

Is that thing glued on? Maybe Toyota/Subaru should try the etched, one piece, leather wrapped metal shifters that real sports cars use... or is that too expensive and heavy for this car?

Use a little bit of shoe-goo, some masking tape to hold it down tight and it should be good to go.

Obviously couldn't handle the power upgrade. Add this to the $499 for the APR front brake cooling ducts.

    Perrin slim knob in black!

I might be mistaken, but hasn't this happened in the past? When the vehicle first arrived. I might be confusing it with another vehicle. Well at least this can be remedied with the aftermarket. Still if I had the car and this happened to it a little over a year after owning it, I would be upset. The shift knob on my old '05 Acura TSX was really solid, I almost wanted to keep the knob before I sold the car.

Warranty should cover it. Why not have the dealership fix it?

...well... I care about the shift knob. It's a car that costs over $20K (or as Fordson1 keeps pointing out, now over $36K)... not a beater...

Not the end of the world, but it's an important detail Toyota could have done better on.

The best aftermarket shift knob I've ever had on my Sti was one from Latheworks. Google them and I'd recommend the copolymer one!

@yellowbal: the sad thing is, if they tried to warranty it, the dealer (especially a west LA dealer) would try to (wrongly) argue that the aftermarket upgrades voided the entire warranty, including the shifter.
