    Ick. The release mechanism in our Accord makes no noise at all. That just sounds cheap to me.

    True, I haven't driven a car that has a button release (rather than stagger gated) shifter like that in a while, but I remember them sounding like that. Maybe newer ones tend to be quieter.

    I had a car that had a very loud brake interlock control that sounded the same way. But now I can't remember which car that was! (Oh, and it didn't bother me AT ALL.)

    I am sure if I stick my ear down there as close as the microphone is on that phone it would be quite annoying, but I don't plan on doing that.

    FWIW, my new Dart GT doesn't make this sound at all....
