So what happened to keeping the Pontiac G8 idea (affordable performance sedan) alive? That car started well under $30,000. This is nowhere close. What a disappoint.

This an impressive car but the price is a little steep for middle class incomes.

It's less powerful but a generously optioned, Hemi-powered Dodge Charger RT can be had for significantly less than $40,000.

Gosh, I Wish this were offered with a manual gear box! NOt that I'd consider buying one based upon that criteria alone.
Word has been out for a while that the next generation Mustang is coming in sedan form with IRS soon (next year?). I would imagine such a Stang to be in direct competition with this car except for the fact that I am SURE that such a Mustang will be offered with a third pedal. Very interested in test driving one of these..but can't say my expectations are high. Hope to be pleasantly surprised.

I'm baffled by the claim in the article that the SS has no direct domestic competition, when the article immediately references the Chrysler 300 SRT8. The article doesn't mention the Charger, but that's absolutely a direct competitor too. Large, RWD, V8-powered, fairly well equipped sedans from mainstream nameplates - it doesn't get much more direct than that.

@rjett: Oh please. Sure you could get a V6 G8 for less than $30,000, but definitely not the GT, and as sure as hell not the GXP. The GXP, by the way, is what you would compare to the SS since they have the same engine (6.2L LS3) and both come in a single,

This car is slow for the power it has, too expensive for what it is.
