    In reality, people will drive whatever car they already have to go to the beach. Although this article is a little old, the Element (no longer made new) and Jeep Wrangler seem like good choices.

    When it comes to a mid-size wagon, though, if we're talking about driving on the beach – think all-wheel drive and a raised suspension. Although not as fuel-sippy as the VW wagon listed, a Subaru Outback (top choice), Audi or Volvo wagon would be a great purpose-built beach traveler.
