Minivans offer superior packaging to SUVs. If you don't haul a heavy trailer or drive off-road to get home, an SUV is a fashion accessory. And this SUV may not have the grunt to tow!

Hmmm...it weighs as much as a minvan and has the same engine as a minivan...?

AWD. This is putting way less hp to the pavement than a FWD minivan.

Given that I've read that the 3.5+CVT is underwhelming in the Altima, I'm not surprised to read that it's not quite getting it done in the JX. I wonder if Infiniti spent any time considering the 3.7+traditional automatic combination. I drive a CX-9 with Mazda's 3.7 and I'd have to say that it has plenty of power for merging, passing and hills. Only downside is the mileage and I think that was the focus for the JX which is actually pretty efficient for a vehicle of its size. I think you might find it doing almost as well as the Ecoboost Explorer you had in the long term fleet while providing more usable power and AWD.

I have the VQ35 in the G sedan, and it is great, but I guess being a half-ton lighter than the SUV makes a big difference. Why it sucks in the Altima, though, just makes no sense. Perhaps its the CVT.

I don't know who or what your sources are legacygt, but the 3.5 anything Altima is far from underwhelming. As far as I have read, the new CVT in the 2013 Altima 3.5 is just as fast as the last gen 07-09 3.5 Manual, which is 5.8-5.9 secs to 60. If that's considered underwhelming for a mid-size family sedan, you may need to lower your expectations a little.
