Most modern Hondas and Acuras have two trip meters and thus two average mpg meters. In my car, I've never reset trip B, so that acts as a "lifetime" mpg gauge.
So does our Ford Escape. But it tends to overestimate in 4 out of 5 fill ups, by around .8 - 1.0 mpg. I still use B as an overall average, keeping in mind that it's still most likely reading a little higher than I might have hand calculated.
