Any really good sporting car is like that, they ask to be driven fast, especially the German and Italian ones. I used to drive a BMW that was very ordinary and kind of annoying at low (normal) speeds, but as the pace picked up it came alive, smoothed out and really became a competent and enjoyable drive. Couldn't keep it for long, its ideal zone was well into license-losing range, and it seemed pointless when less expensive machinery had a sweet spot closer to every day conditions.
