I take every review about access to ports in the center console with a grain of salt. Why, because none of these cars ever have anything in the center console. Look in promo shots. Look in car review shots. Look in Long Term Fleet shots. Every picture shows a barren center console with ports waiting patiently for someone to plug something in. Now enter the real world. Many people actually fill their center consoles with stuff. Gloves, Chapstick. Some papers. Some cables. Gum. Sunglasses. Whatever. The thing gets filled up to the top. Halfway maybe. In any case, those easy-to-reach ports are now buried.

We were looking at CX-5s a few days ago and noticed this same thing. We thought it was a nice setup too. Our center bins usually have some napkins, pens, and gas receipts so that's not an issue for us. Thanks to this LT test and our test drive impressions it looks like we're going to pull the trigger on a Touring FWD in Sky Blue with no options. It just depends on the salesman keeping his word that they won't add on the typical dealer padding items (lo-jack, paint protector, etc) during PDI.

The port is a little high in the console. If you have a non-low profile plug, or say, a usb stick, it gets in the way of the little console shelf and other items. --- Oh well, USB's on the way out and bluetooth is the way to go. I just use the plug to charge my phone.
