If you have a 1 year old why are both child seats facing forward?

40/20/40 folding seats are fantastic. I don't know who was the first (maybe Volvo) but they're starting to show up on more cars. Still, I wonder why this setup isn't even more common. I'm sure it adds a significant cost but it makes the car so much more useful to more people in more situations.

1 year old could mean 1.5 year old; which is when we turned the seat forward for our son.

yeah, i know the newest guidelines say to rear-face them as long as possible. i considered the statistics cited and the probabilities. i waited an extra 6 months (from the old guideline of 1 year) and then flipped the seat.

I'm usually one of the more vocal parents on here about how absurd child seat regulations have become, but 1 year definitely seemed young to me. 1 1/2, hmm, maybe but 2 seems more likely. Maybe the conditioning of the child seat lobby is finally getting to me.

It would be safer if all passengers sat rear-facing.

Isn't the direction/type of car seat used determined by the weight of the child?
