I drove a 2009 Legacy for 4 years. A lot to like, but there are some nagging issues with their motors. Six months after I traded mine a recall came out that required replacing the cat-converter.
My brother owns a '10 Forester. He had a head gasket give-up on him with only 60K on the clock. A $1,600 repair that fortunately was covered.
The head gasket issues have been around forever.
Second to none in AWD systems. Chronic head gasket issues, mainly because of the head architecture. Very thin mating surfaces continue to be a challenge.
