I have a 1996 Altima gxe. A few days ago I backed out of a parking spot and found that after attempting to shift the car into drive, the transmission did not engage at all. Although I have not seen any signs of leaking ,I found the trans fluid almost 1 qquart low and added it back to full. The transmission has not engaged at all since. I have had a transmission replaced in other vehicles before and would have expected there to be some sign of warning but after backing out of that parking spot it simply does not engage any gear at all no click, clunk, vibration, nothing other than the normal movement of the gearshift. Is there anything short of a complete transmission failure that would cause this behavior, anything I should make sure gets checked before a complete rebuild or replacement?
