4X4 not engaging. Chevy S-10 Blazer
Truck 203,000 mi., transmission abt. 50,000 mi. Driven daily but 4X4 seldom used. Since new was hard to shift into 4X4 but performed perfectly until this week. Lever will move to all positions but indicator light remains in 2 wheel and no power to front axle. After attempt to use failed, moved lever back to two wheel position, drove about twenty feet when one very loud BANG occurred. Quickly shut off engine. Could find nothing obvious. Started normally and drove normally. Did not try 4X4 again. Cable from vacuum to transfer case is free. Have not checked vacuum source or vacuum switch and motor on transfer case as yet.. It is, apparently, a Rube Goldberg design.
I realize that no one has a crystal ball but my question is; has any one had a similar problem and could I have possibly damaged something in the transfer case?
