    Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a blog post if owners "don't like our car for any reason in the first three months, you can just return it and your remaining lease obligation is waived."

    Yes, but if you lose that whole $6,477 down payment, you just paid $8,808 to drive this car for 3 months. This deal doesn't come across as move of a good deal, probably a reflection of a lower projected resale value for the Model S.

    People who are paying $80k for a car aren't too worried about the $6,500 they put down. It is the same as any other car lease that if a car is returned then you give up the down to offset the cost of now having to sell that car as used. Even a tesla as great as they are will not sell for the same price for new and used.
