    I guess I'm struggling to come up with any other reason for them doing it.

    As the Macan manual makes references to race track use, its wheel arrangement makes sense.
    Will Porsche sponsor local Track_A_Macan days?

    BMW has been doing this for years on the X5. It's a better idea with summer tires rather than all-seasons (summers are no-charge on the Macan). On track, it's for more grip and neutral handling. On the road, it generates some necessary terminal understeer for safety.
