Seeking advice re Battery Maintainers

Internet articles re Battery Maintainers (trickle chargers) speak of hooking-up charger to a stored or infrequently used vehicle and staying hooked-up until vehicle is put in use again.

In my situation, it is inconvenient for me to hook-up for long periods. I believe I will hook-up, wait for full charge to be attained, then un-hook and repeat 2-3 weeks later.

This will also save on electrical use, but that wouldn't be my main incentive. Does anyone see any problem with this approach ?

Don't really see any problem with it. I guess it depends on how much of a drain there is on the battery while it sits to determine how long it will take to get back up to a full charge.

Depending on the discharge rate (the stuff that is always on alarm, remembering radio pre-sets etc the battery may fail to hold a charge well in time (shorter time then would be expected) if you chose the 'weeks' between recharge route

I bought the "Schumacher SEM-1562A-CA 1.5 Amp Speed Charge Battery Maintainer"

I attached this maintainer to my 2014 Honda Civic ---- after it sat dormant in my garage for three weeks. Within 6 hours the "Charged" lamp lit to indicate that the battery was back to full charge.

I will try a four week interval next time.

For two years I used an "every four weeks interval" in recharging my 2014 Civic. Everything working okay.
