Ignition Locked Problem

Hi,

I have a 2002 Focus ZX5. Automatic.

The other night, I pulled into a gas station and pumped gas. When I tried to turn the car back on, the ignition switch was locked as well as the break pedal.

I attempted to shake the wheel, move the shifter, and press down the break. Not the most eloquent solutions, but still had no luck.

I know my key has a transponder in it.

I called some mechanics and they all suggested that I would probably have to take it to a dealer if it is a problem with the transponder.

Any suggestions as to what my problem might be?
Could it be something else?
If it is the transponder do I have to take it to the dealer or is there another option?

Thank you for your help!
