1999 Nissan Pathfinder Will Not Start

I have a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder 4wd. I have not cranked it in a couple of months and today I went to drive it and it will not start. It turns over fine but does not even try to start. One thing I noticed is that it does not make the "humming" sound that it use to when I turn the key to the ON position. You know, that humming that would last about 3 or 4 seconds. Is this noise I use to hear the fuel pump, ECM, or something else, and why do I not hear it now? Could this be related to my problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
