well, if nothing else it serves as an easily visible indicator that the door is locked or unlocked...

I had an Audi A4 which had a red light in place of the plunger. One click of the inside door handle to unlock, a second one to open the door. My BMW X5 has actual plungers like the one in the Colorado, which I hate.

Power door locks are still an option? Geez, come on. We have all of this electronic key safety measures but you still have to push down on a plunger to lock your vehicle???

I don't mind them especially if they also work with the power door locks. My old '98 Accord had them and when you pushed down the drivers plunger it would lock all the doors. I could easily get out and lock all the doors basically in one motion.
