Not impressive. The GTI is packing an extra 300 pounds, 1 cylinder, 70 hp, 100 lb/ft of torque, lots of utility and performance...and is getting nine-tenths of one mpg worse average fuel economy. So, the MINI has a high initial price, so-so performance, tight accommodations inside, and very indifferent fuel economy for a car of its size...still waiting to see what this car is good at.

You have quite the obsession over bashing this car. Sad!

You're right. I have no idea why Fordson should be upset that a sub compact 130hp $33,000 car's overall mpg is 2 mpg less than the city cycle rating.

Call 'em like I see 'em, darex.

I dunno...probably that with this small a turbo engine, you have to be constantly into the boost. BMW can surely do better...look at the 328I xdrive GT...thing has plenty of power from its turbo four, weighs 4k pounds and has AWD...and it's off only 3 mpg from this MINI. And the MINI has over 6.5k miles on it...not going to improve much.

I don't know if I could live with that fuel gauge.
