Personally, I'd like just a simple Android based system where you could tether it to your phone (although this is against TOS) or pay a monthly fee for internet and could install whatever apps you wanted to. No 90's-style GPS vehicle options. No getting your weather from SiriusXM. Just a Nexus-7-like-device where you could use Google Maps and Weather.com

I agree, it's time for more smartphone-based ICE. CarPlay and Android Auto are here. It's time automakers back out and simply let owners bring in their smartphone.

Almost always use my phone but did pull up the weather info one of two times when I had navigation on a recent Ford and now a GM that I own. Even if I never use it I don't have a problem with this type of info being built into the car, but I do have a major issue with other navigation info being tied to SiriusXM, specifically traffic info.

I've got years old stand-alone GPS devices that pull RDS traffic info (often updated faster and with more info) that cost less than $150 with lifetime service yet I have to pay a thousand bucks or more (either as an option or built into the price of the trim level/car) for a clunky system that requires an expensive data service? Similar to integrating WiFi hotspots, I don't want another bill and separate data plan. Either offer the option to tether and pull data from a phone or for traffic info use the FM radio band transmitted RDS info.

And free lifetime map updates. Kind of shocking a few manufacturers still require you to buy them after driving off the lot if they aren't the most current.

Not sure this is related.. but there has been reports of Colorado & Canyon owners saying that the area by the doors (extended cab or crew cab) has been damp.. The reason.. and mainly on the extended cab.. is that drivers are not closing the half doors firmly enough when accessing areas of the extended cab.
