I have a whining sound coming from the front of my 05 Frontier V-6 engine. I removed the serpentine belt and started the engine, the whine was gone. The whine starts at 2000 rpm and seems to quit at ~3500 rpm. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

possibly battery is at fault and you are hearing normal alternator noise from alternator maxxing out trying to charge a marginal battery. and maybe it's making the noise above 3500 rpm but you can't hear it above the other noises. consider to put the belt back on and carefully use a 'stethoscope' approach to find the noisy component which could be anything run by the belt, alternator, power-steering pump, a/c compressor/clutch?
