I had a rental 2015 Hyundai Sonata that 100 miles on it when I got it, that had a really bad chemical/synthetic odor that just irritated me beyond belief. Could be part of the reason I disliked that car so much. I would have taken that car back to the dealer if it were my personal vehicle as there's no way I'd have put up with it. Whatever happened to that good old New Car Smell they all used to have?
Can you really win a battle with the smell of off-gassing plastics before they are done with their initial strong off-gassing? The plastics are going to just keep pumping out their smell until they are at the point where there isn't as much to let out anymore.
I have found that a lot of new cars don't smell much at all now with modern materials while others will knock you out if you walk by an open car window on a hot day.
