I had a rental 15' Sonata (base 2.4L). It returned 30mpg in the 100% city and 35-38mpg on a round road trip from CA to WA over hills with 2 passengers and a full trunk of luggage (over 2200 miles driven). It's amazing how car-to-car mileages vary.

I can believe it. I drove a rental 2011 Sonata on a single tank to Toronto from Ottawa and back. About 1100km. It's an absolute insane highway beast.
