The air filter looked okay, I left it out and and made sure everything from the air filter to the Throttle body was correct and tight, and the problem stopped. I then installed a new air filter and the problem returned.
can you hear any louder exhaust noise than before ,consistent with cracked exhaust manifold? i'm 84% sure that you can safely do a test run safely with the PVC hose blocked with a pencil or whatever is right size to block it. also consider check the charcoal/evap system, could there be a loose/cracked hose there actually the cause? have you looked for any stored/silent OBD codes?
Thank you all for your input on this problem. I appreciate all of your fine suggestions........ Here is what it was, and it took under 10 minutes to complete this task..............There is a hollow plastic enclosure that connects the air filter to the throttle body located on top of the engine, it is what you see when you open the hood. I needed a screw driver and a 10mm socket with extension to remove it. Under it was a rotted and cracked hose that goes from the bottom of the plastic enclosure to the top of the engine with no clamps or fasteners holding it in place. I found that it is called a PVC hose. No auto parts store carried or could order it. I had to order it from a dealer. I replaced the hose and re-installed the air filter and it has eliminated the problem, I did this about a week ago and the problem has not re-occurred. ......
