Nissan Sentra S 1.8l will not go faster than 50 mph

Our sentra s 1.8 l will not go above 50 mph and has a hard time getting to 50, we have removed the exhaust system and made sure it was clear, replaced the muffler which allowed it to get to 50 before that it had a hard time getting above 20 does anyone have any thoughts on this.
